Mountaineer Elmo Francis who recently voyaged to climb Mt Everest was successful in achieving four altitude records for Sri Lanka. Amãna Bank, Sri Lanka’s only licensed commercial bank which is disengaged from any interest based transaction, partnered the local mountaineer on this record breaking expedition.

Having planned to reach an altitude of 7500 meters by climbing the south side of Mt Everest, Elmo’s bid was put to a stall in wake of the tragic incidents which occurred atop the mountain resulting in the cancelation of many expeditions.Undeterredby the set of events, Elmoredirected his efforts to climb the summit of Lobuchi East which stood at 6201 meters, thereby becoming the first Sri Lankan to do so. In reaching the summit Elmo broke three other local records including the first to Summit Jangbu Peak at 5400 meters, first to reach the Khubu Ice Falls at 5700 meters, and the firstto camp at the Pumori Advance Base Camp at 5870 meters.

Speaking on his achievements, Elmo said “I am happy to have achieved these records on behalf of my country. At a time when my journey was threatened, I was determined to somehow overcome the odds and do my country proudas well as do my part to bolster awareness on climate change. I am thankful for Amãna Bank for coming forward to sponsor this journey of mine.”

Commenting on Elmo’s accomplishments CEO of Amãna Bank Mr Mohamed Azmeer said “The entire country should be proud of Elmo’s achievements. At a time when combating climate change is the need of the hour, Elmo’s expedition is a kind reminder of the part every one of us plays in sustaining the bounties mother Earth has to offer us.We are happy to have partnered Elmo on this expedition.”
