Virtusa Foundation Recognized at UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards

Businesscafe - Virtusa Foundation, a key enabler of Virtusa Corporation’s global CSR initiatives was recently honored with the ‘Award of Merit’ at the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2024.

Virtusa Foundation focuses on creating inclusivity by fostering connections beyond client engagements, empowering Virtusans to participate in socially relevant causes including education, empowerment of marginalized communities, environmental sustainability and more, including protection of national heritage, art and culture.


As such, the award-winning project involved the restoration of a 134-year-old historical school building in Mumbai, India, home to the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable Institution (B.J.P.C.I).

The Award recognizes Virtusa’s initiative to help preserve a vital piece of history, while ensuring the institution continues to inspire and educate underserved communities for generations to come.


The restoration revitalized the school’s intricate architectural features, including teakwood screens and colorful glass, while preserving its historical significance.


Established in 1890, the school is one of the last remaining structures in city built in the Gothic architectural style.

In Sri Lanka, Virtusa has contributed to a number of impactful community causes and environmental initiatives through the Virtusa Foundation, as part of the Company’s broader


CSR policy; Key projects include Virtusa’s contribution of expertise and resources in the development of the Rehabilitation Management System (RMS) and setting up of the Digital Learning Centre (DLC) in Vavuniya, which garnered a spotlight feature in the UN Global Compact Report on Responsible Business Advancing Peace case studies.


More recently, Virtusa Foundation partnered with Biodiversity Sri Lanka on the multi-year multi-collaborator forest restoration project – LIFE.


The project, currently in Phase II, is set to focus on the implementation of a Conservation Management Plan and the establishment of a Biodiversity Credit Accrual System for Sri Lanka .
