Three orphanages from the Nugegoda, Kalubowila and Kirillawela areas were selected to participate in the event.
The day’s activities kicked off with the children arriving at the Galle Face Hotel for a light morning snack and given a tour of Colombo in a double decker bus courtesy of Ebert Silva Holidays.
They were then driven to the airport and taken through the check-in process as passengers, after which they headed to an A330 airbus for a familiarization tour courtesy of the Airport and Aviation Authority.
“Today’s experience for the children was to show them what they could aspire to be and also to recognize them as a growing generation who have a role to play in society.
The kids were thrilled by the tour, and especially loved our interactive discussion on the history of aviation.
We were delighted to see engage and ask questions from our Engineer as well.” said Mr. Niroshan Ranawake, Manager, Sri Lankan Cares.
As part of the tour, the children were treated as passengers on the aircraft, with in-flight entertainment and an on-board meal served for lunch.
After the airport tour concluded, they arrived at the Galle Face Hotel for an Afternoon Tea Party complete with an array of delectable snacks followed by an evening of music and magic shows.
The Galle Face Hotel’s General Manager, Deni Ohlsen-Dukic said, “We are truly privileged to be a part of events such as these and I take this opportunity to thank our partners Sri Lankan Cares and Ebert Silva Holidays for joining hands with us for the third consecutive year in order to make a difference this Children’s Day.”
