The Book Sale, which opened its doors to the public on 18th October at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC), was reported a success and wrapped up on 28th October 2019 with over 250,000 visitors Whilst having established itself as an influential, one-of-a-kind Book Sale in Sri Lanka as well as in a number of other regions worldwide, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale ensured that not only would the Sri Lankan public get an opportunity to access brand-new English language books at affordable prices but also be able to give the best to the least.
Staying true to the objective of making reading available for everyone and to fight illiteracy, especially in rural areas, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, Red Readerhood (RRH) successfully collected over 3800 brand-new books to be donated to the local community in need benefitting children.
This year, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale collaborated with the Centre of Hope, a charity group that operates a care home and an educational centre at four main districts; Ampara, Batticaloa, Colombo and Mullaitivu.
These centres provide assistance to children who hail from economically challenged upbringings
Adding her insight about the initiative taking off in Sri Lanka this year, Co Founder of Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, Ms. Jacqueline Ng stated, “Giving back to the local community in which we operate is ingrained in our culture and has been throughout the company’s history and we execute this by working together with local organizations.
We believe that books should be available to everyone and reading is a great way to improve English literacy and learn about the world.”
The Red Readerhood is an initiative which encourages visitors at the Sale to purchase a book from the designated Red Readerhood corner to be donated towards this cause.
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale commenced the initiative at the beginning of the Sale by pledging 500 books for donation.
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Colombo 2019 contributed to many happy memories for shoppers.
