CIPM President – Ken Vijayakumar, Chief Guest Dr Harsha Alles – Chairman of the Gateway Group of Organizations, Guest of Honor Ramesh Schaffter – Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer at Janashakthi Group, Members of the CIPM Executive Council, CEO of CIPM Chris Obeysekera, CIPM Faculty Members, and staff were present at the ceremony.
In his welcome address, CIPM President Ken Vijayakumar congratulated the graduates and said,
“Learning never stops; this is just the beginning of your journey.
You learn, unlearn and relearn certain things when you mature, which is the attitude you should have as you advance.
Passion in what you do, commitment, and honesty are extremely important in life as well,”.
“Sri Lanka has the lowest population growth rate in the South Asian region and an ageing population, we are currently facing a foreign exchange crisis, and educated people are queueing up to leave the country.
At this time, young people like you are graduating, to be in charge of the most important issues Sri Lanka faces.
As HR professionals, it is important that you stay motivated, motivate your colleagues in your organizations, and understand that you deal with humans.
I sincerely hope that you will contribute to the efforts that CIPM is making around the country and contribute to this effort to make this beautiful country a better place for all of us,” said Dr Harsha Alles.
“The last few years have not been good for our country, but life does not end. We must show our resilience to those around us and that all is not lost.
Over 800 of you have overcome the challenges and been rewarded for your hard work.
When starting your career, set your heart, mind, and purpose.
Ask yourself, am I just getting a job or is there a greater purpose in life?
CIPM is a professional institute with professionalism and expectations.
Leadership requires three ingredients: knowledge, passion, and ethos or ethics.
It is essential that you have values and ethics,” said Ramesh Schaffter, adding that while knowledge and passion were abundant, ethos is lacking amongst most of our people.
