The latest medical camps organised by the life insurance leader under its ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ (Meet the doctor) community health initiative took place at the Vallipuram Maha Vidyalayam, Puthukudiyiruppu in Mullaitivu and the Sivapuram Primary School in Vavuniya, and provided free doctor consultations and health screening for 227 and 274 people respectively.
Coordinated by the Ceylinco Life branches in the Vavuniya region and Kilinochchi with the involvement of over 40 staff members, these camps provided screenings and tests to diagnose diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart and kidney disease, cholesterol, and vision-related problems to people who have limited access to medical diagnostics and preventive healthcare.
The free random blood sugar tests, electrocardiograms (ECGs), urine tests, instant cholesterol tests, and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements conducted at these camps diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, bronchial asthma, and ischemic heart disease.
They were prescribed medication and advised on how to manage these conditions.
Visiting doctors at the camps also provided participants with the information necessary to help them make better lifestyle choices to prevent or control non-communicable diseases, the Company said.
Of the 222 patients who received vision screenings at the camps, 33 patients were recommended the use of spectacles.
In addition to the medical camps, Ceylinco Life also donated medications worth over Rs. 400,000 to the General Hospital in Trincomalee.
This donation was made possible through the contributions of both the employees and the Company.
To date, Ceylinco Life’s Waidya Hamuwa programme has benefitted more than 148,000 people via 400 ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ camps across the country.
