The company laid out a four-part plan on its official blog earlier this week that includes the following goals: hire diverse Googlers, foster a fair and inclusive culture, expand the pool of technologists, and bridge the digital divide.
According to CNNMoney, the tech giant is spending $150m to help women and minorities pursue careers in technology.
In the past two years, Google said it has doubled the number of schools from which it recruits to promote diversity in the workplace.
The blog post pointed out that while 14 per cent of Hispanic college enrollment is at four-year schools, Hispanics only make up seven per cent of the 200 most selective schools.
This year, more than 500 Google employees will participate in ‘Diversity Core,’ a programme where employees contribute to diversity efforts, according to the company.
Previous diversity efforts from the company include partnering with Disney to inspire young girls to get into coding and sending Google engineers to work at historically black universities.
