Mobitel Partners ‘One Million Tree Stories’ Project by Empowering People to Sponsor a Tree via mCash

The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel recently partnered with Rotary and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in the ‘One Million Tree Stories’ project, which aims to plant one million trees in the country.

Mobitel is supporting this worthy cause of protecting the country’s flora by offering the opportunity for people to sponsor one or more trees at a cost of Rs. 100 per tree either via their mCash Customer Account or via authorised mCash Retailers or Mobitel branches.

Each tree sponsored by a customer will be geo-tagged (Location Tagging) and assigned with a unique number along with the sponsor’s name at www.rotarytree.com.

The plantation of the one million trees will be initially located in Kurunegala district under the supervision of the Departments of Irrigation, Agrarian Services and Forest Conservation.

Mobitel’s Senior General Manager - Marketing Nalin Perera, commented:

“Sri Lanka’s forest cover has been known to be depleting over the years.

This dire situation calls for a mammoth public/private cooperation to stem and restore our green spaces.

Mobitel is proud to be part of the ‘One Million Tree Stories’ project, in partnership with Rotary and the Sri Lanka Tourist Board in this well-deserved initiative.

We are optimistic that our large customer base and other responsible citizens of the country will join hands with us and use the mCash platform to make their contributions for the future generations.”
