Aromatic Agarwood is prized among the world’s most valuable woods. Agarwood as a fragrance is used today in creating some of the world’s most expensive perfumes. It is also used for its medicinal properties and popular in Middle Eastern countries as incense and for oils.

Agarwood is a resin found in Aquilaria trees are large evergreens native to Southeast Asia. The trees frequently become infected with a parasite fungus or mold, Phialophoraparasitica, and begin to produce an aromatic resin, in response to this attack. It is this precious resinous wood that is treasured around the world.

These factors have created a higher demand for the product and depending on the Agarwood grade, an immense value for the wood.

Through research and development Prof. Robert Blanchette and his Team from the University of Minnesota of the United States has developed proven technology known as CAKits (Cultivated Agarwood).

The CAKit perfectly mimics the manner by which the resinous core develops and guarantees the presence of the Agarwood resinous core in every Agarwood tree, speeding the formation process.

This singular patented Agarwood inducement technology in the world has been developed with the aim of producing a commercial and economically feasible Argarwood harvest.

According to H.K. Rohana, Group Chief Executive Director, “Sadaharitha Plantations Limited holds exclusive rights to the patent in Sri Lanka and any other methods of inducement will be infringing the patent for CA Kits because the CA Kit patent covers all methods of inducing Agarwood.”

Moreover, the Organisation has invested heavily in terms of technology dedicating much time, finances and human resources to researching, studying and testing, to create high-quality Agarwood extract. Sadaharitha also through their state-of-the-art nursery in Ingiriya, recognized as South Asia’s largest nursery for Agarwood cultivation, combines responsible growth and restoration management of the Aquilaria plant supply.

Once imported to Sri Lanka, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Forest Conservation and the National Plant Quarantine Service located at the Katunayake Airport provide certification of the robustness of the plants.

“The commercially distinguished Aquilaria seeds imported to Sri Lanka by Sadaharitha Plantations are certified and approved by the State Agriculture Department of Vietnam. Moreover, they bring in a superlative harvesting result as the soundness of quality of the entire cultivation process is certified,” confirmed Satish Navaratne Chairman, Sadaharitha Plantations Ltd.

Potential customers should not be misled by the unscrupulous elements offering Agarwood investments with the promise of short-term returns through the use of other inoculation kits providing higher yields and higher quality wood.

Investing with Sadaharitha assures investors of free expert advice and guidance on how to take care of the Agarwood trees. The Company also guarantees the promise of buying back the harvest.

It is because of its adherence to stringent quality control and alignment with international standards that to-date Sadaharita has not faced any customer complaints.

Sadaharitha Plantations as an environment friendly organization has obtained ISO certification and in confirmation of their contribution was the awarded Gold at the ‘National Green Awards 2012’.
