The Chief Guest for the exhibition held at the BMICH from June 28th to 30th, 2024, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Dinesh Gunawardena unveiled the BYD NEVs to the public.
Guests of Honor for the event were Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Bandula Gunawardana, State Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, Minister of Industries and Health Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Highways Ranjith Rubasinghe, and Industrial Development Board Chairman Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma.
The NEV (New Energy Vehicle) fleet unveiled at the Motor Show includes BYD pure electric vehicles which are the luxury sedan, BYD SEAL, renowned for its sleek design, ultra-long range of up to 650Kms and acceleration time of 3.8s from 0-100Kms/h, the BYD ATTO 3, a versatile and family-friendly SUV, that stands out for its spacious interior, advanced safety features, and an impressive range of up to 480 km, together with the BYD DOLPHIN, a compact yet powerful vehicle known for its agility and efficiency, offering a range of up to 410 km and a swift acceleration time of 7.9 seconds from 0-100 km/h.
Plans are underway to also introduce the BYD DM-i vehicle, BYD SEALION 6, the first model to be equipped with the BYD DM-i technology (BYD Super Plug-in Hybrid EV Technology) in Sri Lanka, with a combined driving range up to 1,100Kms.
Consolidating its commitment to establishing Sri Lanka as a hub for new energy vehicles in the region, JKCG Auto also revealed ambitious plans to open showrooms for BYD automobiles and EV enthusiasts across the nation.
The first flagship showroom in Colombo is scheduled to be open to the public in the coming weeks, which will provide visitors an immersive experience, highlighting the advanced features and benefits of these cutting-edge vehicles.
The company is further leveraging its partnership with BYD to cultivate local talent and create a knowledge hub for NEVs in the region.
Accordingly, the global manufacturer has begun training the first batch of staff for the country’s first-ever EV Workshop, setting the precedence for future collaborations to nurture local talent to international standards.
JKCG Auto further consolidated its commitment to creating a sustainable transport ecosystem in Sri Lanka, by leverage the extensive network of properties owned by JKH, laying the foundation for a comprehensive EV charging network across the island.
The fast charging stations, scheduled to be completed in the coming months, will be capable of charging vehicles three times faster, significantly enhancing convenience and efficiency for EV owners.
