CEAT, the brand indelibly linked with motor racing in Sri Lanka, has confirmed its title sponsorship of the country’s 2016 championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA), marking its seventh year in this crucial role.

The 2016 CEAT SLADA Championship season begins on Sunday 20th March with the Katukurunda Circuit Meet I and comprises of five race meets in all.

The events following the season opener are the Foxhill Supercross (24th April), Sigiriya Rallycross (5th June), Gunners Supercross (10th July) and Rotherham Circuit Meet II (23rd October).

The grand end-of-season awards ceremony for the 2016 CEAT SLADA Championship is scheduled for 26th November 2016.

Speaking at the formal signing of the title sponsorship agreement with CEAT, SLADA President Mahesh Gammanpila said:

“It is an honour for us to have CEAT as the main sponsor of the CEAT SLADA Championship 2016. If not for the support of CEAT, we would not have achieved what we have today.”

CEAT Kelani Holdings Vice President Sales & Marketing Ravi Dadlani said the brand has been involved in supporting motor sports in Sri Lanka for a decade, and has been the title sponsor of the annual championship for seven years, supporting the two associations that conducted the race events.

“We are committed to continue our support to efforts to develop and popularise motor racing in Sri Lanka and to raise the standard of the sport,” he said.

Established by a team of drivers, riders and officials to take motorsports in Sri Lanka to the next generation, SLADA has introduced the latest technology in timing and equipment to meet the demands of this rapidly changing sport.

To ensure that race events are a success, the Association has nominee representatives from the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force on its executive committee, a first for any racing association in the country.

Besides its sponsorship of the CEAT SLADA Championship, CEAT supports the race meets conducted by the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force, as well as the sport’s governing body Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS).

As part of its partnership with SLAS, CEAT Kelani Holdings is the principal sponsor of all Ford Laser/Mazda 1300cc and 1500cc and Nissan March 1000 cc ‘one-make’ racing events conducted during the year, at which all competing drivers race on CEAT radial tyres.

CEAT Sri Lanka manufactures half of the country’s pneumatic tyre requirements, and CEAT is the highest selling radial tyre brand in the country.
