The Mercantile Esports Championship is recognised as the largest annual Mercantile-level sporting event, with 20 different game titles to choose from this year.
This year’s Mercantile Esports Championship marks the 6th consecutive year the event has been held since its start back in 2016.
The 2020 Mercantile Esports Championship, was the first time the event was moved to a completely online setting due to the global pandemic.
This year’s event remains an online event, allowing employees from Sri Lankan companies to participate from the safety of their own home or office.
This move brought many participants to last year’s championship, with over 800 registered players and a new champion being crowned.
Competitors representing top firms such as HSBC, Ceylinco, Pearson Lanka, MillenniumIT, WSO2, Virtusa Polaris, 99x, Axiata Digital Labs and many more take part in the annual Championship.
Previous winners of the prestigious title are Virtusa (in 2016 and 2017), MillenniumIT (in 2018), OrelIT (in 2019) and Global Systems Solutions (in 2020).
Samsung Sri Lanka comes onboard as the title sponsor for the Mercantile Esports Championship this year.
Samsung has been at the forefront of developing products and services for gamers and promoting Esports in Sri Lanka over the years, as it was identified as the fastest growing sport in the country..
As a result, Samsung in partnership with Gamer.LK have successfully initiated and completed many large scale gaming tournaments, amassing over 1,000 participants from around the country and a staggering 175,000 people watching the tournaments over live-streams.
To Energize the championship, Red Bull steps up with their signature brand of flair and energy.
They have also been a significant part of Sri Lanka’s Esports growth over the years by partnering with & conducting unique Esports events.
Competitors at the Championship will represent their corporates across a number of team games (Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty Mobile, DOTA 2, Free Fire, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant) and individual games (Clash Royale, Assetto Corsa, FIFA ‘21, Real Cricket, Rocket League).
In addition, Call of Duty: Warzone will be held as a casual demonstration title.
The Championship will also feature a Women’s League aimed at encouraging female participation for Esports at a corporate level.
The Women’s League will feature the titles: Clash Royale, DOTA 2 (1v1), League of Legends (1v1), Mario Kart Tour, Valorant (Deathmatch).
Registrations for the Mercantile Esports Championship 2021 are now open online at https://gamer.lk/go/mec21 and will close on 21st November 2021.
