ChildFund Korea is funding an Early Childhood Development Education project which is implemented by ChildFund Sri Lanka, in Mullaitivu.
“ChildFund Korea has been working with ChildFund Sri Lanka for many years and to celebrate our 70th anniversary, we launched a project in Mullaitivu to support 16 ECD centers to promote early childhood education and development, in 2017,” Mr. Won Man Jung, Vice President of ChildFund Korea said during the event.
The objective of the project is to improve access to good quality and holistic ECD services for children including children with disability.
The project will prepare children aged 3-5 years in selected ECDs in Mullaitivu for school through a number of activities.
These will include teacher training, child-friendly learning and teaching equipment, trainings for parents and caregivers on nutrition and early childhood development and improved infrastructure facilities.
The project also endeavours to make parents in rural Mullaitivu more aware of the importance of ECD education and encourage their cooperation and engagement towards the improvement and maintenance of ECDs.
A special feature of the project is a psycho-social counselling component for children and parents in order to address post war psycho-social issues families maybe experiencing.
In addition to awareness on child protection, teachers also receive training on identifying children with disability as well as children who maybe experiencing emotional problems.

In order to encourage attendance at ECD centers and to develop access to good quality ECD centers, ChildFund Sri Lanka with funding from ChildFund Korea has completed the construction of 2 new ECD centers and is making one major renovation and 10 minor renovations to existing ECD centers in the area.
