Going beyond the traditional idea of celebrating Valentine’s, Mobitel brought youth to senior citizens living in elders’ homes for a unique celebration of love and hope on the special day.
The ‘Love is much more’ theme was conceptualized by Mobitel with the purpose of creating awareness about the need to spread love and happiness amongst those who need it most, thereby teaching youth about care, compassion and most of all, unconditional love.
This was a mammoth undertaking for Mobitel as it partnered with universities and national youth councils to support elders’ homes across Sri Lanka.
Mobitel’s mission to light up hearts was coupled with yet another helpful initiative where each elders’ home was given essential goods to meet their basic necessities.
Commenting on the initiative, Isuru Dissanayake - Senior General Manger, Marketing, Mobitel said, “’Love is much more’ was Mobitel’s interpretation of how we can express love in diverse ways, especially to people who might feel alone and dejected on the special day.
We were able to add more value to love by enlightening youth on how they can easily spread love to the ones that need it the most.
With this in mind, we came up with the idea to show all Sri Lankans that love is more than what they think and it is easy to spread love every day with a simple smile, by helping the needy or offering their heartfelt support to the one’s that needs the most.”
On Valentine’s Day, under its CSR umbrella, Mobitel together with youth visited elders’ homes and spent the day with games, food and entertainment.
Thousands of hearts were lit with happiness and joy where some of the elders’ reminisced upon their most loving memories and expressed their feelings about what love meant to them.
Over the years, Mobitel has taken impactful initiatives to not only connect loved ones but also build a network of care where every Sri Lankan from children to teenagers to the elderly generation is supported to live their life to the fullest.
