Bob Geldof’s iconic track has returned, this time to combat the growing threat of Ebola in western Africa which has killed over 5,000 people.
In response to the overwhelmingly postive online buzz driving sales, the Irish musician told Radio 4: “From what we've seen from iTunes it's gone bonkers. Within four or five minutes we had a million quid."
Since being aired on Capital FM at 8am on Monday, there were over 157,500 tweets discussing the charity single, with #BandAid30 even trending on Twitter for much of the day in the UK, according to data from SocialBro.
Internationally, the track gained mentions from 30,400 tweeters from the UK, 8,000 in the US and 2,700 from Australia.
The new version of “Do they Know It’s Christmas” features artists such as One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Chris Martin and Sam Smith.
One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson gave the single a boost on Twitter to his 18 million followers with the below tweets - the most retweeted Band Aid comments on the social network.
