Entries open for SLB National Umpires Accreditation Course

Businesscafe - The National Umpires Accreditation Course 2023, conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), will take place on December 2 and 3 in Colombo.

Applications for the course, conducted by the SLB Technical Committee, close on November 28.

The National Umpires Accreditation Course program is the stepping stone to becoming an internationally recognized official.

The President of Sri Lanka Badminton Technical Committee Roshan Fernando hailed the success of the course over the years and said Sri Lanka currently has a good number of globally recognised badminton officials.

“We already have one Badminton World Federation (BWF)-accredited referee.

We also have two Badminton Asia referees.

There are three highly experienced BWF umpires who officiate at top global events such as Olympics, World Championships etc.

We also have six Badminton Asia umpires and two BWF-accredited line judges,” Fernando said.

“This is a very good combination.

This means we have a very good pool of officials who can represent the country as officials at top competitions such as Olympics and World Championships at any given moment,” Fernando said.

The candidates who enroll for the course will receive interactive training and guidance to keep them updated with the latest rules and regulations etc.

To implement what they have learned in theory, they will be directed to officiate at future SLB-sanctioned tournaments.

A total of 75 National umpires representing all provinces took part in the Refreshers Course.

All participating umpires will face a written exam on the second day of the course and will be directed to the upcoming National Championships for practical assessment and grading.
