The United Nations has designated the 10th of every October as World Mental Health Day and this year Fashion Bug came forward to sponsor this event by helping the NIMH to celebrate this day.
As one of Sri Lanka’s leading retail clothing chains with over 17 outlets island wide, Fashion Bug is heavily involved in Sports and CSR activities, with all 17 of their branches contributing and participating in these initiatives .
In addition, Fashion Bug has also established their very own CSR programme under it’s Educational CSR platform, ‘Sisu Dirimaga’. “We wish to make a significant and real change in the society we work in, and sports and education are a must for everyone in order that they may become responsible Citizens , regardless of age and gender”, said Director Fashion Bug, Shabier Subian. “Our contribution to the NIMH is very much in line with our CSR activities which focus strongly on the less privileged and marginalized segments of society”
The NIMH’s mission is to put patients first. The institute plays an integral role in Sri Lanka by providing specialized psychiatric services to the community with professionalism and care, and is also the centre for mental health training and research in the country.
Its goal is to be the centre of excellence for psychiatric care and mental well being. The main roles of the institute are providing treatment for patients who are suffering with mental diseases, rehabilitation and socialization.
The Consumer Action Network Mental Health Lanka ( CAN MH Lanka) is a voluntary organisation attached to the NIMH with nearly 4397 members representing different parts of the island. Their main objective is to gather people together into a society which will protect the rights of the mentally disordered.
To provide a qualitative mental health to people who are suffering with mental diseases, provide consultancy service and networking of the mentally disordered people at both district as well as international level, improve the economic environment and career development of the mentally disordered and their families, protect the right and status of people with mental diseases, provide consultancy services for preparing planning and policies on mental health.
Associated with CAN MH Lanka, helping them to achieve their objectives are Dr Asangali Hettiarachchi- Director Mental Health, Dr Jayan Mendis - Director-NIMS, Dr Noel Fernando - Specialist doctor judicial and S.K Nanayakkara - President & Operational Director CAN MH Lanka.
